Dragica Matejić Šreder


Dragica (Matejić) Šreder was born on April 9th, 1948. in Miloševo, Jagodina. She writes and translates poetry and short stories for children and adults in Serbian and German.

She has published 5 books of poetry for children and 4 books of poems for adults in Serbian. She was awarded literary reward “Kočićevo pero 2001” for her book “Gorsko bilje”. The book she wrote jointly with Ljiljana Lukić and Klaudija Porat of bilingual poetry “Javna tajna” (2004) was published by the “Petar Kočić” Foundation, Banja Luka – Belgrade. The bilingual book of children’s poetry that she wrote with Gordana Maletić and Laza Lazić “Ptica and rekom” (2004) was published by KNJIGOTEKA, Belgrade. Dragica has published 10 bilingual children’s anthologies of poetry and prose in Serbian and German and 18 bilingual anthologies of poetry and prose for adults in cooperation with the “Petar Kočić” Foundation, Banja Luka – Belgrade and MAJDAN Kostolac, as well as a trilingual anthology of poetry in Serbian, German, and Macedonian covering the works of 15 female poets (five from each country – Serbia, Germany, and Macedonia) “Trilogija posebnosti” (2007) published by MAKEDONSKA REČ, Skopje. She has also translated more than ten books into German. Her works have appeared in many literary journals, collections, and anthologies both in Serbian and German. She is the recipient of numerous literary awards for poetry in diaspora, as well as the Plaque awarded by editorial staff of VESTI as the most popular Serbian female poet in 1999 and 2000 in North Rhine – Westphalia region. She was awarded “Pesnička hrisovulja” in 2005 for her translation contributions by Srpska duhovna akademija in Paraćin and “Gold Pin with the Charter” awarded by the Serbian Cultural and Educational Society for her literary contributions to culture in 2007. In 2011, she was also awarded the Coat of Arms and the Bronze Fabricius Medal of the city of Hilden for her contributions to building bridges between cultures. In 2015, she was a recipient of the Great Charter awarded by the Association of Serbian Writers for Morava District for 50 years of her literary and 20 years of her translation work. In 2017 alone, she was awarded the following prizes: literary prize “Dušan Srezojević” by the literary club “Đura Jakšić” in Jagodina in 2016, international literary prize “Ana Frank” by the publishing company Feniks and Foundation for cultural and scientific affirmation and presentation “Makedonija Prezent”, Skopje, “Đurina Gramata” by the literary club “Đura Jakšić” in Jagodina, the Bronze Plaque “Orfej na Dunavu” at international literary meetings held in Kostolac for modern love poetry and international literary award “Apolon” in Sremska Mitrovica.

Apart from being a member of the Association of Serbian Writers, SAJKOR, the Association of German Writers, Srpske duhovne akademije in Paraćin, writers’ association “POETA” (Belgrade), literary club “Đura Jakšić” in Jagodina, she is also one of the founders of the writers’ association “7” in Frankfurt am Mein, a representative of foreign authors for North Rhine – Westphalia and the president of the Yugoslav-German cultural-artistic society in Hilden (Germany) that builds bridges between cultures by organizing literary evenings and art exhibitions of our artists.

She has lived and worked in Hilden (Germany) since 1973 and at present in her hometown Miloševo, Jagodina.
